Ruth Evelyn Neely passed away at AgeCare Mount Royal on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
She was the loving mother of Sharon Walsh (Heather McIntyre) of Oliver, BC, Ruth-Anne Neely of Calgary, AB, Paul Neely (Pierre Turgeon) of Montreal Quebec, Randy Neely (June Neely) of London, UK, Shelley Neely (widow of son,Grant Neely) of Medicine Hat, AB, and Stephen Gillespie (Shelley Gillespie) of Barrie, ON. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Matthew Neely, Tyler Neely, Ava Neely, and Bowdyn Neely; six great grandchildren; sister, Jessica Tooth; brother, Robert Grunewald and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Paul Grunewald and Marion Grunewald (nee Burtch); husband, James Irwin Neely; and son, Grant Irwin Neely.
Ruth was born and grew up in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario. She became a teacher, served in the Canadian Air Force, worked for the government of Canada, was a business owner in Beaver Creek, Yukon and continued to work at various jobs into her 70s. She had a love of reading mystery novels, cooking, knitting and was an avid Scrabble player. She enjoyed her travels to Europe, Ireland & the UK, Egypt, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the South Pacific and various parts of Canada and the US over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
