Ruth Elaine Herbert
1962 – 2022
It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Ruth Herbert, announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the age of 60 years.
Ruthie was an amazing daughter, sister, auntie, friend, and colleague. Born in Woodstock New Brunswick, she was the youngest daughter of Lewis and Alma Herbert, sister of Lois Frederikse, Diane Herbert, Barb Dingee, Marg Guillery and Nancy McConnell and had many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She received her Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Alberta and then went on to obtain her Master’s in Nursing from the University of Calgary. Ruthie loved people and lived life to its fullest! She was a bright light, someone who you could talk to and opened her home to many in need! She had a missionary’s heart and travelled to many countries including Brazil, Uganda, and Kenya where she helped children and families with food and necessities and shared the gospel of Jesus.
Approximately 7 years ago, Ruthie was diagnosed with breast cancer and after many chemo treatments her cancer went into remission. Sadly, the cancer returned and spread to her liver and bone. She fought long and hard courageously, often with a smile. Ruthie will be fondly remembered as a kind, brave and compassionate woman who will forever remain in our hearts and serve as an inspiration to us all.
A Public Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Choice Memorial (105, 4715 – 13 Street NE, Calgary, AB).
