Obituary for Robin David Petersen

Robin Petersen
May 16, 1955 - January 13, 2023

Robin David Petersen was born May 16, 1955 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed away January 13, 2023 in Calgary, Alberta.
Rob grew up in the Battlefords area of Saskatchewan where he met and married Linda Joan Creegan (1953-1992). They had four children.

Rob is survived by his best friend and life partner of 27 years, Suze Detombe; children; Pamela Hujber (Chris), granddaughter Maddison; Einar Robin (Kayla), grandchildren Katelyn, Erik, Samuel, (step-grandchildren Jason, Jordan, Justin and Jurnee); David, granddaughter Hailey; Sean (Blake), grandchildren Owen and Andi; sisters, Ruth Pepperdine (Jim) and Andrea Brown (John); numerous nieces and nephews, and much loved dogs Joli, Maria and Maki.

Rob will be remembered for his exceptional career as a pilot and his accomplishments that spanned decades in the industry. He was a natural born pilot and very proud to have experienced many aspects of the aviation industry including crop-dusting, test pilot, Transport Canada Inspector, Class 1 flight Instructor and Pilot Examiner just to name a few. He was extremely proud of the work he did with the Regional Gliding School (Prairie) – Air Cadets as a glider instructor and tow-pilot in addition to being the Zone Commander for the flying/gliding operation at the North Battleford Airport. One of his favourite moments was when a good friend and CF-18 pilot/instructor took him up to fly the CF-18 Hornet.

His passion for fast cars, classic cars and motorcycles was equal to his love of flying. In his earlier days, he was a serious engine-builder and stock car racer. He always dreamed of being a professional race car driver and one of his favorite movies was Ford vs Ferrari. He loved his Corvettes and Harley Davidson and was especially proud of the 1962 Chevrolet Belair station wagon that he built and that he and Suze raced in Nevada. For eight years, Rob volunteered his time as Chairman of the local Airdrie Summer Classic Charity Car Show that raised thousands of dollars for local charities.

Music was always a large part of Rob’s life. Playing instruments and singing in a band in his younger days. Later in life he enjoyed garage bands and was always on the lookout for somewhere new to sing karaoke!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rob’s name to the Airdrie Food Bank or Battlefords Boys and Girls Club.

A Celebration of Rob’s Life will be held at The Hangar Flight Museum (4629 McCall Way NE) on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
