Obituary for Murray James Bruce

Murray James Bruce
October 16, 1962 – February 9, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Murray Bruce announce his passing on Friday, February 9, 2024, unexpectedly at his home in Kananaskis Country, after a brief illness. He was 61.

Murray will be very greatly missed by his two beloved children, Kira Lynn Bruce and James Neilson Bruce; as well as his parents, Jim and Mildred Bruce; sister, Shelagh Meston (Stuart); nephew, Andrew Meston; niece, Alyson Smith (Jared); and great-nieces, Lena and Sophie Smith. He also leaves behind his good friend and former partner, Connie Neilson, and a wide circle of friends who were very dear to him. He was predeceased by his first partner, Michele Santucci, in 2002.

Murray loved the mountains, choosing to make Kananaskis the place he lived and worked for over 25 years. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing, boating, hiking or just sitting around a campfire with friends. He was very artistic, and enjoyed spending time on his drawing and photography. He spent a number of years on the volunteer fire department in Kananaskis, which he loved. Murray will be fondly remembered for his laid-back, unassuming personality and his great sense of humour.

A gathering of family and friends will take place later this spring or summer, to honour Murray’s memory. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
