Obituary for Michael Geza Trattner

On Friday, September 29, 2023, Michael Geza Trattner, the beloved husband of Valerie Trattner, passed away at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 69 years.

Michael was the loving father of Stephanie Margaret Trattner (Ken Hill) of Belleville, Ontario, and Alexander Trattner (Kristen Desjardins) of Calgary, Alberta. He will also be lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Chloe Hill; grandson, Liam Haller; siblings, Hilary White, and Geoffrey Trattner; nieces and nephews, Thomas White, Gregory Trattner, Trevor White, Jason Trattner, and Owen Trattner; uncle, Barry Nelson (Josie); and all the English family. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Brenda and Geza Trattner; and brother, Colin Trattner.

Michael was born in Worksop, England but moved to Canada in 1959. Married for 44 years to his love, Valerie, Michael was a family man of the truest form. He thoroughly enjoyed being a father and a grandfather. Michael received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of Calgary in 1979. He was the treasurer for the University of Calgary for almost twenty years and worked at the university until his retirement in 2016.

Michael was an avid soccer fan, both as a coach and a spectator. His favorite teams were England’s National Football Tea, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, the Calgary Flames, and the Stampeders. He was an avid collector and Michael also had a true passion for travel, traveling throughout much of Europe and North America.

He will be missed for his wit, smile, and thoughtful presence.
