Obituary for Melda Jane Huxley

Melda Jane Huxley
November 27, 1933 – December 22, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving and beautiful mom,
Melda Jane Huxley.

Born in Edmonton, Melda was adopted by her parents, Nellie (nee Hourihan) and Edward Huxley and grew up in the Ghost Pine area of Alberta. She married and moved to Denmark in 1955, starting a family and eventually working for the Canadian Embassy in Copenhagen. She took great pride in assisting Danes immigrating to Canada.

Melda returned to Alberta in 1967 and set up a home for herself and her three children in Calgary. We are so proud of our mom for her strength and resilience, raising a family as a single parent at a time when that was a rarity with few support systems in place.

Melda lived in Calgary for the remainder of her life, working for several companies in the 'oil patch'. After her retirement she pursued her passion for the arts, enjoying dancing, listening to live jazz and browsing through local art galleries when she wasn't busy working on her own paintings. Many of her paintings were inspired by her childhood years on the farm and her school years in Drumheller.

Melda leaves behind her three children; Jeannie Loman (Peter Loman), Jeff Knudsen (Carol Knudsen) and Suzette Knudsen (Mike Finn); as well as her many loving grandchildren and one great grandchild.

No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones should a service be scheduled in the future.
