Obituary for Matt Gajda
It is with profound sadness and shock that we share that our brother and son, Matthew Gajda, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
We have spent some time searching for the right words for this but have come to the conclusion that there are no words. We are heartbroken. The heartbreak is visceral and hard to articulate.
Matt was funny, smart, charming and complicated. He had a big heart and a mischievous smile. The glimmer in his eye was, at times, blinding. He was a spectacular athlete - the kind of goalie who set records for goals scored, on the other team. He could drink an entire pint of beer in under 5 seconds. He was fiercely protective. He both played and loved hard.
Matt had his share of demons, and he ultimately lost his battle with addiction. We are deeply shaken and filled with questions, what-ifs and regrets. We hope you are finally at peace now, and we know you are with our mom again. We love you always.
Matt leaves behind three beautiful little boys. Matt loved his boys more than anything in the world. They were his bright lights, and they are his legacy. They will grow up knowing all the good that was in their dad.
At this time, we are planning a small service with immediate family. Thank you to everyone for the support and love.
At the request of Matt’s friends and loved ones, we have started a GoFundMe account for anyone interested in supporting Matt’s boys in the future. The proceeds will be put into a savings account for them to access when they are older.
