Obituary for Mark Wayne O'Shea

Mark Wayne O’Shea
November 27, 1973 - June 2, 2022

Mark was a son, a brother, a father who resided in Calgary, Alberta until his passing at home on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the age of 48 years.

He was the loving father and stepfather of Jaz-Liese Butts of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Kaleb O’Shea of Calgary, Alberta, and Olivia O’Shea of Calgary, Alberta.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his father, Francis (Frank) O’Shea of Halifax, Nova Scotia; brother, Mike O’Shea (Nadine) of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia; brother, Jay Scott O’Shea of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; granddaughter, Jha-Zeyia Butts of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia; sister-in-law, Catherine Roberts (Rob) of Beaumont, Alberta; brother-in-law, Robert (Bobby) Butts of Halifax, Nova Scotia; niece, Jessica Roberts (Darcy) of Beaumont, Alberta; nephews, Colton and Kaedan O’Shea of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia; nephew, Brett Roberts-Edmonton, Alberta; as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who were considered family. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary (Christina) O’Shea in December 2020; and his wife, Elizabeth O’Shea (Butts) in March 2022.

Mark was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mark was a very hyper child growing up and getting into trouble with his brothers. I am sure all three boys kept both Frank and Chris busy in their younger years. Mark met the love of his life Elizabeth and her daughter Jaz-Liese in his 20’s. They resided in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Mark, Liz and Jaz-Liese moved to Victoria in 1998, then onto Calgary in 1999, when Liz and Mark got married on September 4th, 1999, in Calgary.

Mark was known for his sarcastic and witty personality but even more-so for his huge heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a selfless man that always made sure his loved ones were safe, supported and cared for.

Mark had many friends though out his lifetime. Everyone who knew him, knew he had a profound sense of humor and a smart mouth. Mark had a loud, larger than life personality and loved to make people laugh. He lived life to the fullest. His friends often looked to him for advice due to his ability to encourage others to remain confident in who they were, while reminding them to laugh a little even in the challenging times and not take everything in life so seriously.

For many years Mark was a well-known bartender at The Roadhouse; The Drink, in downtown Calgary, where he developed abundant friendships in the industry and was a positive mentor to many. He also previously held a management position at The House of Cars. Mark also worked at various locations for Auto Max for numerous years.

In his leisure time, Mark loved to watch and play hockey, he was a phenomenal goaltender, he was also badminton champion during his high school years.

Mark’s genuine free spirit will be remembered and missed by all those who had the privilege to truly know and love him. The world will be a little less bright without him in it.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s memory to Go Fund Me. Charity Name: Go Fund Me for Kaleb. Even a small donation could help reach the fundraising goal. And if you cannot make a donation, it would be great if you could share the fundraiser to help spread the word.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 3:00 pm.
