Obituary for Marjorie Doris Thomas (Molyneaux)

Marjorie Thomas
September 1, 1934 - March 22, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we share with you the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, Marjorie “Marj” Doris Thomas (nee Molyneaux).

Marj was born in Lancashire, England on September 1st, 1934 and passed away on March 22nd, 2020 at the age of 85. Marj passed away peacefully at the Chinook Hospice in Calgary, Alberta with family by her side.

Marj is survived by her six children, Peter Ward (Rosemary), Ann Jones, Bea Ward, Nancy Thomas (Richard Green), Andrew Thomas (Francine Kreba) and Gail Dirks (Cory) as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Marj is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Preece; brothers, Brian Molyneaux (Kathleen) and Richard Molyneaux (Cindy); many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her loving dog Oreo.

Marj loved everyone deeply and, as we all know, would give you a good kick in the butt if you were messing up. You always knew where you stood with her and always felt her love. Marj always put her family first. No matter what struggles she encountered, Marj always provided stability for her family. We always had a roof over our head and food in our bellies. She taught us to be strong and independent. Thank you Mom!! She was the most brave and loving woman in the world and is now singing with the birds and flying with the butterflies.

Marj loved to gather with people and was the first one to stand up and read a poem she had written for that person should it be a birthday or wedding or whatever the occasion. She loved to write the poems and sometimes would even sing them. She loved the visits and get togethers and believe you me we had a lot of them over the years. Marj loved her music so much and listened to it with great pleasure even on her last day on this earth. Her children can remember coming home after school and there was mom laying on the living room floor with her head between two speakers listening to her favorite song at that time. "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison was one of them for sure. Marj loved to dance and especially loved the chicken dance at weddings. She never hesitated to be the first up and was always the life of the party! She will now be dancing in Heaven!

As you are all aware Marj had quite a struggle the last year of her life. One thing she did through all of it though, was keep a positive attitude and we still all had a good laugh. The staff at Chinook Hospice are a fine example of how Mom drew people in as they would gather in her room and sing, dance and tell jokes. She was quite the lady!!!

Rest in peace beautiful lady. You will be missed immensely but never, ever forgotten. See you in the funnies!!!

Special thanks to all the staff at Chinook Hospice who made moms final resting place peaceful and happy.

On Marj’s request there will not be a funeral service. We will have a Celebration of her Life sometime in the future when we can once again gather and hug and tell funny Marj stories and laugh and remember.

No flowers please. In lieu of flowers please donate to a pet rescue foundation of your choice. Marj loved animals and now can be reunited with many that she loved so dearly.
