Obituary for Marilyn Joan Taylor (Bird)

Marilyn Taylor
December 10, 1931 - November 20, 2022

Mom was born at the Calgary General Hospital, December 10, 1931, during the Great Depression. In 1949 she went to the University of Vancouver at the age of 17, received her BA in 1952 and BSW in 1953. Despite missing a finger at birth (Ectrodactyly) she became a violinist for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and performed under Igor Stravinsky. Mom was a probation officer and social worker for the City of Calgary upon her return to Calgary. She went back to college (Mount Royal) in her 60’s and got a degree in Early Childhood Development in the early 90’s.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Janet, Ken, Thomas and Duncan (Dawn); brother, Fred Bird; grandchildren, Laura, Alex, Lisa (Vince), Beth, Jamie, Justin and Jaycob; great-grandchildren, Tiago, Gabriel, Kaden, Callie, and Colbie, with one on the way. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan Taylor Sr, and her parents, Sid and Laura Bird.
