Obituary for Kathleen Heather Stewart (McPherson)

Kathleen Heather Stewart (nee McPherson)

It is with sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Kathleen Heather (McPherson) Stewart who passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 49 years of age. Throughout her 26-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Kathleen resolutely trusted in Christ’s faithful promise that “though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day,” believing that “the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead would also raise (her) with Jesus.” (2 Cor. 4:14, 16) We celebrate Kathleen’s faithful life, and rejoice that she is now present with her Saviour.

She will be lovingly remembered by Chuck Stewart; her son, Nathan Stewart; parents, Neil and Gail McPherson; siblings, Sarah McPherson, Annie (Patrick) Taylor, David (Lindsay) McPherson, Matthew (Kristin) McPherson; and by many nieces and nephews, Sam, Lily, Grace, Evie, Abby, Isaac, Emma, Jude, Levi, Ben, Luke, and Jacob. She will also be dearly missed by many other family members, friends, and caregivers. The family would especially like to thank Janice, Jessica, Sara, Charisse, Hanah, and Kim who gave excellent, skilled, and compassionate care to Kathleen.

Kathleen was born to Neil and Gail McPherson on August 29, 1972 in Calgary, Alberta. Growing up on a farm, Kathleen was often found riding horses, gathering carrots in the garden, playing with siblings and cousins, and collecting crocuses for others from the field. She enjoyed horse jumping, skiing, and youth group at First Alliance Church. She attended Glenmore Christian Academy from grades 4-9, and then Henry Wise Wood High School. After graduation, Kathleen moved to Edmonton where she received a degree in dental hygiene from UofA, and met her husband, Chuck Stewart. They married in 1996, and moved to Yellowknife, NWT for 2 years before returning to Calgary. When Nathan was born in 2000, Kathleen proved to be a devoted mother, treasuring her son. Despite continued suffering with MS, Kathleen focussed her attention on giving to others. This generosity was evidenced in the 2000+ Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes that she compiled and gave to vulnerable children around the world over the past 20+ years. Consistently, Kathleen invested in building relationships with neighbors, friends, and family. She was a thoughtful, organized, family-oriented, and generous woman who will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022, from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Choice Memorial (105-4715 13th Street NE, Calgary, AB).
