Obituary for Josefina Olivares

Olivares, Josefina
1931 – 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Josefina Olivares, who died peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the Brentwood Care Nursing Home.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her husband and love of her life, Nicolas who will feel her loss immensely after being together for 68 years of marriage. She also leaves her sister, Florentina (Jose); brothers, Lorenzo (Juanita); and Francisco (Manuela); brother in-law, Manuel (Maria) as well as many nieces, nephews; great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jose and Lucia and her brother, Manolo (Rosi).

Josefina was born in Beas de Segura, Spain on April 16, 1931 and was the oldest of five children. After completing her Seamstress and Design Diploma and marrying Nicolas, they immigrated to Germany and after five years moved to Canada.
After many years working as a seamstress, she opened an alterations and tailoring shop called Oligar Tailors with her sister, Florentina which they had for ten years. Josefina and Nicolas enjoyed many trips, going back and forth from Calgary to Spain where they enjoyed their other home. She enjoyed sewing and entertaining with as many family and friends that she could fit into their home. She would make the most amazing food, including her famous Paella.

The most important thing in life to Josefina and Nicolas was their relationship with their Saviour, Jesus Christ. We will miss you Tita and will see you soon in Heaven as we trust in God’s promise to us, that if we believe in him, we will have eternal life (John 3:16).

Thank you to all the staff on the Morrison West Unit at Brentwood, and especially to Marlena and Gilda who took such wonderful care of both her and Nicolas.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a Private Family Visitation and Service will take place. To view and share photos, condolences, and memories of Josefina, please visit www.choicememorial.com
