Obituary for Joette Naomi Heffernan (Metcalfe)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joette Naomi Heffernan (nee Metcalfe) on Thursday, May 25, 2023. After a lengthy battle with multiple serious medical problems and dozens of difficult hospital stays, she is at peace. Breathe easy and pain free Joette.

Joette was born on August 23, 1968, in Ontario but she spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Winnipeg where she went to East Kildonan High School. She married her first husband and moved to the East Coast for a few years but then moved back to Winnipeg to rebuild a life and career with family and friends. In the mid 90’s, Joette ventured to Calgary to start a new life. She met Garnet, the love of her life, in 1999. They had a whirlwind romance and were married in May 2000. In July 2000, Joette and Garnet welcomed their son Teigen. During his younger years, Joette loved being a stay-at-home mom to Teigen but later worked outside the home until her health deteriorated.

The next chapter in her life brought many new and exciting changes, including a new home, and welcoming her parents Bill and Wendy to live with them.

She continued to be a loving wife and mother even throughout her lengthy battle with multiple chronic health issues. Joette also continued to support those around her as long as she was able.

Everybody who met Joette was drawn to her kindness, sense of humour, wonderful smile, and her infectious laugh. She will be sadly missed by all those who loved her.

A very grateful thank you goes to Units 38 and 39 staff at the Peter Lougheed Center and those at the PH Clinic. The family also wants to thank the Beddington C3 facility for all your help and friendship and give a special thank you to all at Dulcina Hospice. You are all very special people.

A Celebration of Joette’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Choice Memorial Funeral Home (105, 4715-13 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta).

Those who knew Joette, knew of her love of animals. The family asks that donations may be made in Joette’s memory to AARCS Animal Rescue Society of Calgary or your preferred animal charity.
