Obituary for Jeffrey Howard Switner

Jeffrey Howard Switner
November 27, 1967 – October 22, 2023

Jeffrey Howard Switner went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the age of fifty-five after suffering a sudden heart attack.

Jeff was born on November 27, 1967, in Calgary Alberta and remained a proud Calgarian his whole life. He loved Formula F1, aviation and the classic car-chase movie ‘vanishing point’. One of his favorite places was Fort Rodd Hill in Victoria, BC. He would visit Victoria and would go daily during his stay just to marvel at the manicured grounds and historical coastal defense artifacts, and being somewhat of a firearms enthusiast as well, it's no wonder he could spend hours upon hours there during each trip to the
island.

After graduating high school in 1986, Jeff went on to pursue his passion of flying at North American Air Training, where he became a Licensed Private Pilot. At this time, he also started what would become in total a 28-year career employed at the Calgary International Airport in many different areas from baggage handling to plane de-icing, refueling and just about everything in-between. The airport was his happy place- he simply enjoyed being around planes-whether it was driving them, servicing them or loading them, Jeff found contentment being surrounded by one of his greatest passions. He did at one point try his hand at a different career path and took his EMR training where he then provided medical services onsite in the Oil Field Industry however, this proved to be much too mundane and devoid of the action he needed to be fulfilled. After a brief period, Jeff found himself back ’home’ at the airport – this time in the role of providing security services, which gave him the new experience of being inside, out of the elements yet still able to enjoy his planes.

Jeff was the adored son of Howard and Delma Switner, brother to Karen (Jim), uncle to Brandon (Ashlee), Shayna (Josh), Jaedyn, Zachary and Payton and great-uncle to Autumn, Dayton, Danny, Gracee and little peanut on the way this November-whose due date is Jeffs birthday, November 27th. Jeff has left us far too soon and left a void much larger than he could ever have known but we take comfort in knowing he is home with Jesus, which was the greatest desire of his heart. We love you so much and will miss you every day until we meet again.

A Memorial will be held for Jeff on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 am at Crescent Heights Baptist Church (1212 1st Street NW, Calgary, AB). Reception to follow.

The family would like to thank Choice Memorial for their care and guidance in this most difficult time-your kindness and compassion truly meant the world to us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s memory to The Mustard Seed.
