Obituary for Herman George Seifert

Herman Seifert
September 11, 1933 - February 4, 2024

Herman Seifert passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the age of 90. Herman was born and raised on a farm near Hatton, Saskatchewan where he spent his early years helping on the farm and travelling to and from Hatton for school via horse and buggy with his brother, Louis and sister, Marie. He attended high school in Edmonton, Alberta at Concordia College, where he played hockey for the Concordia Clippers. From there he went on to study agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan where he met his future wife, Maria. They were married on July 1, 1960, at the North Southey Zion Lutheran Church. Herman worked as an operator for CP Rail starting in Medicine Hat in 1958 and ended his career in Calgary when he retired in 1990. After retirement, Herman & Maria travelled extensively around the world and later in life enjoyed family trips with his children and grandchildren to Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii. During the summer months he liked relaxing on his deck while watching the birds and enjoying the nice weather, in winter curling was his passion, he played on various teams over the years and never missed a match on TV.

Herman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maria; children, Keith Seifert, Kelly (Tammy) Seifert, Kendall (Mae) Seifert, and his grandchildren, Amanda and Nicole. Herman’s ashes will be buried at the North Southey Cemetery in Saskatchewan at a later date. A Funeral Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church in Calgary on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1pm (3104 34 Ave NW).

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Newport Harbour Care Center for their compassion and care for our dad over the past year.
