Obituary for Heather Elaine Mary Wilson (Bell)

Heather Elaine Mary Wilson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Heather Wilson in Calgary on Saturday, November 11, 2023, with Grant, her husband of 56 years and her kids by her side at Rockyview Hospital.
Born in Winnipeg, on September 11, 1945, Heather was one of five children to Vera (Aruadel) and William Bell. Loving wife of Grant, mother to Dawne (Aime) Grenier and Scott (Erin). Nana / Grandma to Brandon, Brody, Ariah, and Coen. She had 3 brothers Dave (deceased), George (Linda), Rick (Krys), and a sister Darlene (Willy) Dueck with wonderful nieces and nephews.

She also had a wonderful extended family in Edmonton. Fred (deceased) and Sidney Wilson along with many cherished nieces and nephews. She was loved by all her extended family and large network of friends.

On September 2, 1967, Heather married Grant Wilson in Winnipeg. They met roller skating after she fell, and Grant helped her up. Heather and her husband owned and operated a successful financial business for over 50 years. They loved traveling and were lucky enough to have gone to many places including Switzerland, Greece, Hawaii just to name a few. Together they put thousands of miles driving between Winnipeg and Calgary. Pretty sure the cars could drive themselves at one point! They built an amazing life together surrounded by family and friends and their cherished dogs.

She was always willing to try new things and got involved with swimming, scuba diving, parasailing, and dancing. She was always the first one to dance. A lover of all animals - all the dogs knew where to go for a scratch, pet, or a treat. She loved watching sports and cheered for the many football games, hockey games and figure skating. She was always very proud and involved in all of Dawne and Scotts many sports and activities. Always their #1 fan and cheerleader. Which she then continued by joyously cheering on her 4 grandchildren.

Heather was the hostess with the mostest. She loved having people over and the door was always open. Her table was beautifully set, and the house gorgeously decorated. She never missed calling or emailing on your birthday or for any important event. There was always a card with oodles and oodles of hugs and kisses at the end. The master of creating comfort, laughter and her love for people always shone through. Her smile and laughter was infectious. She made everyone's lives richer with her optimistic outlook on life and comforting hugs.

Heather was an amazing wife, Mom, Nana, Grandma, Sister and Aunt. She will be terribly missed and forever remembered.

We would like to thank the Bethany, George Boyack and the incredible team of Doctors and Nurses at Rockyview on Ward 74 for their kindness and compassion in Heather’s last moments.
Donations in Heathers’ memory can be directed to the Calgary Health Foundation (Neurocritical) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A memorial will be held in Calgary and Winnipeg in the Spring/Summer of 2024.
