Obituary for Harold Theodore Kroening

Harold Theodore Kroening, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the age of 90 years.

Harold is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera (Cottrell) and three children, Kenneth, Margaret Parr, and Shane (Michelle). He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Steven, Timothy, Dylan, Jessica, and Emily; and two great grandchildren, Quinn and Emery. He was predeceased by his parents, Oswald, and Myrtle (Ashton); and three brothers, Ronald, Dennis, and Bernard.

Born in Ponoka, Alberta, Harold grew up in the small town of Millet, and moved to Calgary sometime around 1954. He spent his life working as a mechanic and machinist until retirement at the age of 57 following triple bypass surgery. He spent the following years enjoying life: gardening, doing puzzles, painting pictures, crafts and taking long walks. His favorite place was the swing in the backyard where he would sit for hours reading, snoozing, or just sitting and admiring his beautiful backyard. In 2016, they sold the “shack” that they lived in for 57 years and moved into a mobile home, where he lived until his death.

A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held on his birthday, July 13th, at Bowness Park, which was one of his favorite places. More details will be shared at a later date.
