Obituary for George Edgar Lanctot

George Lanctot
November 4th, 1938 - May 7th, 2022

It is with relief and great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved George Edgar Lanctot who passed away peacefully on the morning of May 7th, 2022 in Calgary, AB in the presence of his daughter Michelle. In his final days, with all his signature wit and sense of humor still fully intact, he was surrounded by family and loved ones from near and far to share a few more laughs and make a few more memories.

Born in Hythe, AB on November 4th, 1938, to Edmund and Helen Lanctot, George was the fourth child in what eventually became seven. George is predeceased by his parents Edmund and Helen, his sisters Geraldine, Marjorie and Sharron, and his brothers Bill and Charles. He is survived by his brother Gene, some of his cousins, and many of his nieces and nephews.

The love of George’s life is Rogena (nee Sloan) who he first met in Dawson Creek, BC while room and boarding at Rogena's grandmother, Stella Rimbey’s, house. George quickly became part of their family and for Rogena, it was love at first sight. They had an everlasting love that fostered a marriage of nearly 60 years. George and Rogena had their two children; Michelle in 1963 and Mark in 1964, in Dawson Creek, BC. Throughout their lives together, they moved around a few times making plenty of friends along the way and having the time of their lives in Terrace, BC, Cranbrook, BC, Grande Prairie, AB and eventually settling in Calgary, AB in 1984.

George was a devoted family man and could often be found sipping a good drink, laughing with friends and family, and dancing with his “honey”. George is survived by his loving wife Rogena, daughter Michelle, son Mark (Iris), grandchildren Kelsey (Justin), William (Jaimy), Andy (Ciara), great grandchildren; his Bella boo, Gabriel, Eve, Tyler and Marilyn and so many other family members and friends who will all miss him dearly.

While the family has chosen not to have a memorial service at this time, they plan to have a Celebration of Life to remember George with Family and Friends at a later date.

The family would appreciate if you would share any photos, stories or memories of George on the Choice Memorial website at www.choicememorial.com. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (403) 277-7343.
