Obituary for George Grichtmeier

George Grichtmeier
May 27, 1930 – October 24, 2023

With heavy hearts the family of George Grichtmeier announces his passing on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 93. Born in Pemfling, Germany, George immigrated to Canada at the age of 21. By studying and improving his education, George was eventually able to attain the position of Plant Operations Manager with Wolcott Gas Processing Company. This provided him with a much-valued opportunity to mentor various individuals.

Predeceased by his five-year-old son Alan and first wife, Ursula, George is survived by his devoted wife, Lieka; daughters, Gerlinde Grichtmeier/Ferguson, Beate Nogas; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three stepchildren.

George loved classical music, reading, hiking, and fishing. He cherished daily walks with his wife, Lieka, and daughter, Beate plus dog Cody in Fish Creek Park. During his twilight years, his passion for family and his appreciation of a good Pilsner or occasionally a whisky, allowed him to relax, visit, and chat with his now grown grandchildren. His keen interest in politics, current affairs, and new business ventures often led to interesting dinner table discussions with family and friends.

George will be remembered as a humble person, a man of integrity, much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all those who were so much a part of his life.

A Celebration of George’s life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the Willow Park Golf and Country Club (639 Willow Park Drive SE).

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Foothills Country Hospice Society in Okotoks, Alberta.
