Obituary for Frances Edith Fuselli (Czeck)

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Edith Fuselli. On Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 4:48pm Mom lost her gruelling battle with cancer. She peacefully passed away at Rosedale Hospice in Calgary surrounded by loved ones. She will always live on in our hearts and memories.

Fran is survived by her loving and loyal partner Jack, daughter Erica (Shannon), sweet granddaughter Eloise, sister Rosi (Scott), nieces Sarah and Lindsey (Ram), brother Harold (Jeanine), nieces Candice and Christie, dear friend Pearla May (Ron), son and daughter in law Chris and Jodi. Fran is also survived by many loving cousins and extended and adopted family and friends.

She was born and raised in Calgary. The middle child of Stan and Edith Czeck. Rosi, her younger sister, and her loved singing whenever they could. They went as far as singing in 3 different choirs, at 3 different churches on Sundays. Harold, her older brother, and her were entrepreneurial from the get go, breeding hamsters and mice and selling them for $0.25/pc. Although through the peaks and valleys of growing up they always found togetherness in camping and fishing or watching movies at the drive in.

One of the things Mom took pride in was her job. She worked for substitute placement at the Calgary Board of Education for over twenty years. She took hundreds of calls a day. Bringing to life one of her favourite impressions of Lilly Tomlin of the phone operator “One ringy dingy, two ringy dingy.” If you had the pleasure of speaking with her on the phone, she had the talent of being helpful, sarcastic and witty all in the same call. She brought a lot of laughter to the workplace. She was a pivotal part of the CBE and created many lasting friendships.

She was elated in being a mother. And boy was she the best. She always planned the best parties with crafts and games and fun foods. She was the host with the most, something she definitely passed down to me. She was score chick, chauffeur and cheerleader to all my friends and team mates. She would razz you in an encouraging way. There was always laughter, whether it was with us or at us.

Fran and Jack loved taking walks to explore new shops and restaurants, but more so to people watch. Mom’s commentary was like no other. They had many memorable trips, that they both cherished. One thing mom and I are so grateful for are our friends, our chosen family. We have so many people in our lives that have welcomed us into their family as some of their own. Those of you know who you are and we will be eternally grateful for each and every one of your kind souls.

We would like to send many thanks to the staff and volunteers at Rosedale Hospice for the kind and generous care they extended to mom and all of us while we were there. It truly made mom’s last days as peaceful as possible. They treated her with respect, and we are forever thankful for that.

Mom loved movies and had many movie quotes she would pop into daily conversations. So it’s only fitting to leave this quote from one of our favourite movies:

“When something like this happens, I pray very hard to make heads or tails of it, and I think that in Shelby’s case, she just wanted to take care of that little baby, and of you, of everybody she knew. And her poor little body was just worn out. It just wouldn’t let her do all the things she wanted to. So she went on to a place where she could be a guardian angel. She will always be young, she will always be beautiful. And I personally feel better knowing she’s up there on my side. It may sound real simple and stupid, and well maybe I am, but that’s how I get through things like this.”
~Annelle, Steel Magnolias.

See you in the next life Mom. We love you so much.
