Obituary for Doreen Helen Baker

Doreen Baker
May 26th, 1965 - Saturday, August 3rd, 2019

We are sad to announce that Doreen Helen Baker (formerly Robertson) passed away on August 3rd, 2019 at age 54 after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.

Doreen was born in Calgary on May 26, 1965. As a young girl she enjoyed Barbies and loved Winnie the Pooh. She was a loving big sister to Darlene whom she often took care of, making sure she had chocolate chip cookies and a share of her Halloween candy. Doreen lived with her family in the Marlborough Park area and attended Crescent Heights High school. She lived in Calgary where she met her former spouse, Jeffrey Robertson. Doreen and Jeff lived in Calgary until 1988 when they moved to Lethbridge, and there she gave birth to her beloved daughter Melissa. Melissa was her mother’s greatest joy, so much so that she has ‘Joy’ as her middle name. She somehow managed to find time to look after her mother and complete her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1998. Doreen was a dedicated friend who was always there with a listening ear and gentle advice. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and Pinterest, or as she called it "pin-interest".

Doreen is survived by her daughter Melissa (Joe) Vanderfluit, sister Darlene (Pam) Baker, her aunts, Mary Twedt, Myrna (Gord) Stuart, and Rita (Ron) Mueller, her uncle Bill (Lorraine) Baker, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her father Douglas B. Baker and her mother Helen M. Baker.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held at the residence of 140 Mt. Blakiston Bay, West. in Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 2:00 pm.

The family would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the medical professionals who provided care to Doreen, the staff at Lethbridge Regional Hospital, STARS paramedics, emergency room staff at the Foothills Medical Centre and especially the critical care team at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. We would also like to acknowledge all the people in Calgary who have and continue to donate blood, and ask those who are able to, to give the gift of life and donate at Canadian Blood Services.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.
