Obituary for Bernice Emma Agnes Undseth (Valentine)

Bernice E.A. Undseth
September 4th, 1928 - Friday, October 9th, 2020

Bernice Emma Agnes Valentine, born September 4, 1928, went home to be with the Lord October 9, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta. There will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ graveside memorial service held in conjunction with the passing of her loving husband at St. John Lutheran church in Fosterton, Saskatchewan in June of 2021.

Bernice, the eldest daughter of Ernest and Caroline Valentine, grew up on the family farm with her siblings Leonard (Doreen), Lavina (Morley Miller), and Vernon (Anne). Bernice is predeceased by both her brothers Leonard and Vernon, sister-in-law Doreen, and brother-in-law Morley Miller, and she is survived by her sister Lavina Miller and sister-in-law Anne Valentine. Bernice is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bernice Valentine was born on a farm in rural Saskatchewan. She received her schooling in the one-room rural country school district of ‘Grampian,’ and completed her high school grade 12 while living with her grandmother in the village of Pennant. Bernice’s family all chose careers in the business and service industries. They always brought a balance to life and community with their love for music, as she and her father played for many community dances.

While working at the Cabri hospital, Clayton’s sister Evelyn introduced them to each other. She made an introduction that lasted their lifetime. Bernice and Clayton were married on June 8, 1948. They raised their family on the farm. After retirement they moved to Creston, BC for 12 years before settling back in Calgary in 2001. Over the years they both enjoyed spending time with family as well as camping and traveling throughout Canada and the US. Their enthusiasm to visit and help others continued as they shared Bernice’s handcrafted crochet and works of art, and Clayton’s ability to ‘help and fix-it’ whatever the need.

They leave behind 2 sons, Glen (Cathie) and Ian of Calgary; 4 grand children, Todd (Kim) of Swift Current, Kelly (Darren Katzell) of Yorkton, Rod (Dale) of Toronto, and Scott (Sydney) of Calgary; 7 great grand children, Amanda, Austin (Trista), Taylor (Cole Gawryluk), Zach, Tyana, Jaidyn, and Jace; and 6 great-great grand children, Owen, Adalynn, Elora, Jackson, Emmitt, and Bryce.

Bernice and Clayton Undseth - A life to be celebrated, 72+ years lived well together from June 8, 1948 until October 2020.
