October 4, 1936 - April 3, 2020
Aura Fernandes passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 83. Aura was born in Entebbe, Uganda on October 4, 1936, where she grew up. She went to a convent in Ireland to study to be a nun, but the passing of her father brought her back to Mombasa, Africa.
Aura married Denis Fernandes on November 16, 1963, in Mombasa, Kenya. Denis and Aura had 3 sons in Mombasa, Ivor, Brandon, and Collin. Denis moved to Canada for work while Aura and the boys moved in with family in England for six months. Denis secured a home in Sept-Iles, Quebec to welcome the family to a new and adventurous country, Canada. The years from 1972 to 1978 were spent acclimatizing in Quebec to the Canadian lifestyle and climate.
She made her life as a homemaker bringing up her 3 boys, managing the household and taking care of Denis. The next move was to Fort McMurray in 1978 and lasted till 1996. Aura took on a sales position at O.B. Allens Jewelers and became the top salesperson in the store. Aura and Denis retired in Calgary in 1996. Aura was involved in the church, singing in the choir, and volunteering her time. She had a warm smile and caring heart. She loved to cook and bake and entertain people in her home.
Aura will be missed and forever remembered by her loving husband, Denis Fernandes and her three children, Ivor, Brandon his wife Karen and Collin.
