Obituary for Adrianna Gabrielle Pederson

Although she was petite in stature, Adrianna had a huge impact on many lives. Gone way too soon, she never gave up on overcoming her injuries from her near fatal car accident in July of 2017. She will forever be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, twinkle in her eyes, a kind heart, witty sense of humour, and a willingness to offer a kind word to those that were in her life; Often, it would come with a joke!

Ever since she was young, Adrianna was always a ball of energy and loved to do so many things. When challenged, she would often say, “just watch me, I’ll do it!” This was especially true during her recovery journey. With determination and a fighting spirit she surprised us all with the speed of her recovery, amazing the medical staff and others especially all of the things she could do without the use of her fingers. The nurses at the Foothills would often comment on how she could put makeup on better than most people with the full use of their hands.

When Adrianna was younger and in swimming lessons, she found herself racing against boys that told there was no way she could keep up. She accepted those challenges and not only did she keep up, but she “kicked some butt”. Adrianna also had a love for participating in the cheerleading club while in Strathmore. She also did some volunteer cheerleading coaching while living in Cochrane.

Adrianna had a love of many things and food was definitely one of them. While binge watching a favorite show or scary movie, her favourites included pickles…especially the Costco-sized jar, ketchup potato chips, dill pickle spitz, and sour Skittles. She also loved pasta, Greek salad, pumpkin pie, Timmies strawberry banana smoothies or a large double-double with a ¼ white hot chocolate. She said that they all fell under the Canada Food Guide!

Her favourite travel destinations were ‘anywhere warm.’ She had the chance to travel to both Arizona and Mexico. Her last trip to Mexico was shortly after she got out of the hospital. She went with one of her best friends, April. Adrianna also loved animals, especially dogs. Her bond with her puppy Diplo was truly admirable, and they were inseparable. She cherished her very close girlfriends as she would a badge of honor and she would do anything for them.

Future goals for Adrianna included attending post secondary to become a psychologist and helping others in their trauma healing. She thought that she could make a difference, by using her own experiences as a Burn Survivor. Adrianna recently worked very hard to upgrade her English and Social Studies to obtain her high school diploma. Her final marks were outstanding considering she did it all online and without accommodations. As part of her accident recovery journey, Adrianna was asked to be a guest speaker at the Pain Society of Alberta Conference at the Chateau Lake Louise in October 2019. There were medical professionals in attendance from Alberta, other parts of Canada and even Australia. She simple amazed everyone with her inspirational words and had professionals inquiring about her giving further presentations. Those plans never fully transpired, largely due to arrival of COVID, but her work and words of wisdom will continue to live on within that professional group.

May you rest peacefully, surrounded by those who have gone before you. We know they are welcoming you with a smile and open arms.

Adrianna is survived by her mother, Christina Kleysen of Calgary, father Darryl Pederson and step mother Corry Lockhart of Kelowna. She is also survived by her brothers Ries Pederson and Kailen Pederson of Calgary and step brother Lyndon Bishop and step sister Jordan Bishop of Kelowna. Adrianna is also survived by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins on all sides of her blended family. Adrianna was predeceased by her grandfathers Merle Pederson and Wayne Kleysen.
