Obituary for Samuel Arthur Torrens (Art)

Samuel Arthur Torrens
February 23, 1925 – February 5, 2018

Art was born in Santa Monica, California. In 1930, Art moved to Winnipeg where he lived for the next 35 years. Art served in the R.C.A.F. during WW 2. After the war, he married his first wife Marian Torrens (nee Christie) and they had two sons, Thomas (Tom) and Patrick (Rick) Torrens. Art worked in the electrical business and was transferred to Calgary in 1965, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

In 1977, he married Marilynn (Lynn) Torrens (nee Smith) and together they travelled the world after his retirement. Art loved downhill skiing, swimming, biking and golfing and pursued these activities in many exotic locations around the globe. Art and Lynn were long-time members of the Senior Alpine Ski Club where they formed many lasting friendships. Art competed in ski racing until his 80’s. He took up painting at a late age and was an accomplished painter of landscapes. Art was a very strong, active, healthy and competitive person who lived a life full of exciting experiences.

Art transitioned on February 5, 2018, as the result of a head injury. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Elizabeth Parsons (nee Torrens), and his first wife Marian.

Beloved son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather .... strong man, kind man, good man ....never forgotten. Godspeed Art!
