Frederick Campbell (Freddie)
June 18th, 1936 - October 12th, 2017

Freddie will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Alice: daughters Eleanor (Tony) Smith and Alison (Warren) Martz; grandson Ryan; great-grandchildren Carter and Chloe; step-grandchildren Talia and Alex; siblings Margaret (Alister) Magill, Ray Campbell, Elizabeth (David) Megaw and Victor (Hilary) Campbell; brother-in-law Roddy Roberts. Freddie was predeceased by his grandson Christopher Martz; and siblings Ella (Joe) Hamilton and Emma Roberts.

Freddie was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to his parents Freddie & Emily Campbell, he was the 3rd oldest of 10 children. The family started their lives in Jeffery Street in Belfast & in later years all moved to Carney Crescent, Castlereagh, Belfast where his sister Ray still resides.

Freddie apprenticed as a Loom Over Looker with the Lindfield Weaving Company of Belfast. He later had a few other interesting jobs….even driving a double decker bus in downtown Belfast. He finished his career in Belfast as a printer with the Belfast Telegraph.

On August 20th 1960 he married the love of his live Alice Conn from Barrow Street, Belfast. They had two daughters, Eleanor & Alison and they all lived in Kings Way, Newtownabbey until moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in June 1977.

Freddie continued his printing career in Calgary at both the Albertan (now the Calgary Sun) and then retired from the Calgary Herald in September 1993. After retirement he worked for the Calgary Stampede on a part time basis where Alice had been working full time for 21 years. Freddie & Alice moved from Calgary to Okotoks in 1999 which has remained their home to this day.

Over the years they were blessed with two Grandchildren (Christopher & Ryan) two step Grandchildren (Talia & Alex) and now two great Grandchildren (Carter & Chloe). Freddie was extremely proud when Carter aptly named him “The Great One”

Sadly, Freddie was diagnosed with Dementia approximately 11 years ago but never lost his wonderful sense of humor and the family have had many years of happy memories together.

A Celebration of Freddie's Life will be held in the Club Room at Calvanna Village (200 Community Way, Okotoks) on Sunday November 5th 2017 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. All are welcome to attend.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Sunrise Village in High River and AgeCare Midnapore in Calgary for their loving care that they showed to Freddie.
