Collin Burt
June 5, 1978 - September 19, 2018

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our much beloved Collin; son, brother, husband, father and uncle.
Collin was born in Surrey, BC., the first of four sons. He brought so much joy into our family. His good sense of humour, wit and a positive attitude served him well throughout his life and latterly during his illness.

Collin had a thirst for education that began in high school. After graduation he received his Criminology Diploma at the University College of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, BC. Following that he moved to Calgary, Alberta and completed his Bachelor of Arts and Religion degree at Rocky Mountain College. During his time there, Collin went on a memorable mission trip to Russia where he met Pastor Perry Friesen and family. This special relationship was to be re-established later. Upon completion of his BA degree Collin enrolled in Ambrose Theological Seminary in the Fall of 2001 and completed his MA in 2003. While attending Ambrose he met his future wife, Maritess and they married in 2003.

His pride and joy in life was the birth of his son, Richard in 2012. A year and half later, Collin and his family moved to the Philippines to work as missionaries in an Orphanage. During this time Collin was accepted at Canterbury University in New Zealand to begin his PhD in Philosophy. This was a major dream of his. Unfortunately, circumstances did not permit him to realize this dream. Collin remained in the Philippines for three and a half years until he became ill, at which time he returned to Calgary for medical treatment. Maritess and Richard would join him later.

Once Collin arrived back in Calgary he was diagnosed with cancer. Collin valiantly fought through his battle with cancer which included two surgeries and several chemo and radiation treatments. But God had other plans for Collin and decided to call him home.

Collin had a zest for life. He loved his family and truly enjoyed holidays and family gatherings where we shared good food and good memories together. He was a fine Christian example to his brothers and those who knew him.

Collin will be missed immensely for all time by those of us who love him dearly; his wife Maritess, son Richard, dad Kevin and mom Hilda, brothers and sisters-in-law Chris (Tanessa), Ryan (Megan) and Aaron (Kerri), nieces and nephews Liam, Madisyn, Josiah, Naomi and Isaiah, grandmother Hilda, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

For those wishing to pay their respects to Collin, Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:30 am at South Gate Alliance Church (1436 James McKevitt Road SW, Calgary). Interment to follow at Edenbrook Cemetery.
