Incredible Spencer

A fond memory: One summer at the Bowyer family cabin, I had the pleasure of watching Spencer wake board. Rising out of the water he demonstrated free rider tricks with effortless mastery … surface 180’s, ollies, and wake jumping.

Spencer’s beaming smile and electric charisma was hard to resist … in no time he had his reluctant Uncle in the water, shaking, unsure, wondering what I was doing there… “Just give it a go” I heard, “I’ll give you the crash course”. Spencer described how to keep my arms straight, knees fully bent, stay relaxed and let the board float up. When I feel the rope pull me forward, just a little bit, thats when I should slowly stand up. So Uncle tried and crashed, tried again and again, and again … each time Spencer smiled, a little laugh, and encouraging me to keep giving it a go … exhausted and finally tapping out … Spencer helped roll me back into the safety of the boat - “you’ll get it next time” he exclaimed, I knew he was proud of me for trying.

And so goes the way of our incredible Spencer; athletic, charismatic, and encouraging. Always pushing the limits - wanting to be the bees knees of any sport he was in.

I’m going to miss you Spencer… I’ll always remember you as this kid who’d jump in head first, strap on any board, and just ride away.

My heart hurts for the family, a tragic loss.

Love, Roy
