Obituary for John Robert Galloway

John Robert Galloway
John Robert Galloway
March 24, 1959 – August 3, 2018

After a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer John Robert Galloway peacefully passed away surrounded by family on August 3, 2018. John is survived by his children Robert of Calgary AB, and Nicole (Jeremy) and granddaughter Charlotte of Invermere BC; mom Charlotte Buie of Vancouver, BC; brothers Mitch (Glenys) of Kelowna BC, Chris of Prince George BC, sister Lisa (Doug) of Lanai, Hawaii; and father Hamish Galloway (Betty) of Innisfail AB. John was predeceased by his loving wife and mother of their children Cheryl; stepfather Gordon Buie; brother Stewart; and close friend Robert Dow.

John was born in Wandsworth London, England and the family soon immigrated to Canada in 1960. The growing family eventually settled in Castlegar BC where John attended Stanley Humphries Secondary School. John, his siblings and his many friends enjoyed fun times and created great memories fishing, hiking, swimming, biking and enjoying the great outdoors while growing up in the Castlegar area.

John moved to Calgary where he worked and traveled the world with Tresco Industries for the past 23 years. John truly enjoyed his years at Tresco where he made many friends and felt his colleagues were like a second family to him. John and the family are most grateful to Mike Huth and the Tresco family for the great care and compassion they had for him during his illness.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre especially Dr. Richard Yee-Ling, Dr. Qureshi Rizwan and nurse Jenna Haugrud as well as the caring staff at Chinook Hospice.

A reception for family and friends to share stories will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 2 -4pm at the Coast Plaza Hotel – Horizon’s Bistro (private room), 1316 33 St. NE, Calgary AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at www.albertacancer.ca.
