Obituary for Michael Neil Peters

Michael Neil Peters
Michael (Mike) Neil Peters
November 19, 1967 - Thursday, July 26, 2018

After a courageous battle with cancer, Michael (Mike) Neil Peters passed away peacefully with family by his side on July 26, 2018 at the age of 50.

Mike and Bonnie met in 1985, when hair was big and jeans were acid washed, and there was no going back. They were married on July 14, 1990 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had two beautiful daughters, Logan (1994) and Mason (1997). Mike was very proud of his family and often said he was thankful he had kids at a young age so he could see them grown up. He went on elementary school field trips with the girls and often got the whole bus singing, much to the embarrassment of his daughters. He loved to hear about their life at university and what destinations around the world that they would someday like to visit. Mike wanted them to soar.

Bonnie was Mike's soul mate and the one to keep him grounded. He was always full of crazy ideas so someone needed to keep things in perspective! He will be deeply missed.

Mike enjoyed music, going to concerts, making videos, being a tour guide, traveling, hiking, skiing, snow shoeing, cycling, or just getting together with friends and neighbors. Mike always had a story to tell, that seemed to get better and better each time he told it. Whenever there was a crowd of people laughing you were bound to find Mike at the center.

Mike had a long standing career with Harry Rosen Menswear that spanned over 30 years in several different positions, his final position being that of Managing Director for Western Canada. Mike's career was very important to him and he was proud to be part of such an upstanding company. He valued relationship building with staff and clientele alike and had a way of making every person feel special.

Mike leaves behind his wife of 28 years Bonnie; daughters Logan (24) and Mason (21); his mother Hilda Peters; brothers Rob (Ellen Peterson) Peters and Gerry (Lonna) Peters; mother and father-in-law Ed and Kathie Kroeker; sister in-law and brother in-laws Juliann and James Thiessen, Rob and Pennee Kroeker, Jeff and Adina Kroeker, Teresa and Chris Taylor/ and many nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. He was predeceased by his father Hermann (Hank) Peters.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Foothills Mennonite Church (2115 Urbana Rd NW, Calgary). In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Kidney Cancer Canada (www.kidneycancercanada.ca ) or by donating blood through Canadian Blood Services in memory of Mike.

Special thanks to Dr. Eric Hyndman, Dr. Danny Heng and his team at Tom Baker Cancer Care, The Palliative Homecare team, Intensive Palliative Care Team at Tom Baker, and the Dulcina Hospice for their amazing and compassionate end of life care.

Fighter till the end!
