Obituary for Marcia Dawn McCarthy

Marcia Dawn McCarthy
Marcia McCarthy
December 21st, 1955 - Sunday, May 6th, 2018

On May 6th, Marcia McCarthy passed away quietly at her home in Calgary. Marcia was born in Winnipeg in 1955. She grew up in River Heights attending Brock Corydon School, River Heights, Kelvin High School and the University of Winnipeg. While active in sports when she was young, her true passion was music and she began to teach herself the piano at age 8. She truly had a gift and began to study with accomplished teachers in Winnipeg. She won several festival competitions in classical piano and also began to study organ. She continued to work with both instruments becoming a church organist as a teenager.

Her love of music led her into a career in the field. She taught and sold instruments at JJH McLean and Eaton’s in Winnipeg. She taught privately and even joined a jazz group playing on the riverboat cruises during Winnipeg summers.

Her career also included time with the Billy Graham Association in Winnipeg and ultimately to a move to Calgary with the organization. Her passion for music took her back into the business and she sold instruments and taught in Calgary as well. She loved working with young children in music and that is how she finished her career.

Marcia is survived by her Mother Marian (Hull), Father Donovan of Winnipeg, a brother Paul of Bedford, NH, a nephew Chris and a niece Alex of Charlotte, NC. She also has aunts, uncles and several cousins in Winnipeg, Victoria and throughout the USA. She will be missed by all of her family and especially by her wonderful friends in Calgary.
