Obituary for Agnes Theilgaard

Agnes Theilgaard
Agnes Theilgaard
August 25, 1930 – April 15, 2018

Our kaere kone, Mor, Farmor and ven passed away in Calgary on April 15, 2018 at the age of 87.
Born in Copenhagen, on August 25, 1930, Agnes married the love of her life Poul on August 5, 1950. They immigrated to Canada in 1957, for “only two years” but Canada turned out to be their lifelong home.

Agnes loved her family, her home, and her garden and excelled at cooking, baking and any handicraft she took an interest in, be it sewing, quilting, cross stitch, knitting, or crochet. She and Poul were always busy on their house with some project or other but at the end of the day, there was always time for a great meal and a good bottle of wine. She worked for a number of years at Woodwards Department Store and not only excelled at her job but also at shopping. Once she left there, she turned her time and energy towards the Eastern Star, rising to the position of Worthy Matron in the Chinook Chapter #133.

In later years, she enjoyed aquacises with the girls which always included a trip to Tim Horton’s, volunteering at the Danish Lutheran Church, and socializing and playing crib at the Danish Canadian Club and at Lake Bonavista Retirement Village.

Predeceased by Poul in 2009, she will be sadly missed by her sons and daughters in law Mike and Astrid, and Morten and Heather; her grandsons and their wives, Kevin and Kate, and Brent and Montana; and cousin Lone Pfeiffer in Copenhagen. Also left to mourn are special friends Hans and Hanne Garde Hansen and Morten and Bente Pedersen of Calgary, and childhood friend Inger (and John) Winther Andersen of Stenlose, Denmark who Agnes kept in touch with for over 80 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danish Lutheran Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. With sincere thanks to the staff at Southwood Hospice for the exceptional care they gave her.
A Celebration of Life for Agnes will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Danish Lutheran Church, 210 – 10th Ave. N.E. with Pastor Charlotte Berg officiating.
