Obituary for Michael Peter McIntee

Michael Peter McIntee
Michael Peter McIntee
March 04, 1947 – August 11, 2018

On August 11, 2018 Michael Peter McIntee passed away peacefully at the age of 71 years after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Michael is lovingly remembered by his wife Rachelle (nee Bourget) of 44 years; his daughter Jennifer McIntee-Leinweber (Landon), and grandchildren Aiden and Zachary; his son Matthew (Alecea), and grandchildren Olivia and Quinn. He is also survived by his sisters Theresa Delaney, Isabelle Darrah (Ed), Jo-Anne Pond (Ron), Diane Frey and Noel McIntee; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his parents Peter and Clara (nee Denoncourt) and brothers-in-law Pat Frey and Bill Delaney, as well as his nephew, Peter McIntee.

Michael was born in Wainwright, AB where he attended Blessed Sacrament School. He surmounted countless challenges and assumed many responsibilities including chopping and hauling wood for his family. He had a competitive spirit and his sport of choice was running. At the age of 16, Michael enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as a soldier apprentice and spent the next 29 years in the regular forces with the 1 Service Battalion and the Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment where he ended his career as a Master Warrant Officer. He then continued his military career for 10 years with the Calgary Highlanders. Always having a way with numbers, he attended night school and became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) while still in the Forces. He was a financial planner for over 22 years and retired in 2014. Over his many years of service with the Canadian Military and in the business sector, he was known to be firm but fair. A love of the outdoors was an ever-present theme in his life. In his younger years, he loved skiing, long distance running, and pushing himself to the limits. His love for being outside was evident as he taught many friends and family how to ride horses, enjoy camping and fishing. His laughter was infectious and his sense of humour was renowned. In Michael’s world, no one was a stranger.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main Street, Airdrie, AB) on August 25th at 11:00 AM. Interment and Celebration of Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Dulcina Hospice (c/o Covenant Foundation) will be gratefully accepted. For more information on how to donate please see http://www.covenantfoundation.ca.
