David Alexander Brown

Cochrane — David Alexander Brown, 84, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary following a battle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Murice May Brown; his son, David Everton Brown and his wife, Laverne; his daughters, Paula Reid, Sharon Brown, and Janice Steele; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and many close friends.

Born and raised in Jamaica, the son of George and Latuzel Brown, David migrated to Calgary, Alberta in 1996.

In his early years, David worked in the tourism industry in Jamaica as a tour operator where he served with distinction for over 40 years. Due to an impeccable service record with the Jamaica Tourist board, David received a National Heroes Day award in 1988 from Rt. Honorable Anthony Abrahams, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism.

After migrating to Canada, David worked briefly in property protection services before retiring in 2003. David then became a full time Grandfather and mentor for his children.

David had a passion for dominoes and taught many of his friends and family members how the game was played at the highest level. He also had an in-depth knowledge of Jamaican history and culture which enabled many of his engaging conversations and impromptu lessons about life and culture back home. Most importantly, David loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed praying for his family and friends. David loved discussing the scriptures and had some very interesting and unique perspectives on many Bible principles and stories.

A Funeral Service will be held at Calgary Church of Christ (4030 Maryvale Drive NE, Calgary, Alberta) on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 am, with a visitation one hour prior to service. The service will be followed by a reception and finally a burial service at the Airdrie Cemetery (33 Big Hill Way SE, Airdrie, Alberta). In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully accept donations to help with funeral costs.
