Condolences

Condolence From: Zulfira
Condolence: I am not skating but would like on this International Mentor Day to Honor the memory of my first Mentor in Canada, Nicole Jelley! It's because of this person I know I should not settle for less in Canada than I have ever done anywhere in the World. It's because of this person I saw how a power of strong positive energy can take you through many odds and discouraging moments. And this is a rare person who said "I am telling you as a Mother..." as though she knew I lost my own when I was 22. RIP, Nicole! Zulfira.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear about Nicole's passing. I met her through a friend who worked at Additionelle many years ago. I was sorry that I never had the chance to learn from her, or work beside her, because she was held in the highest esteem by the ones who knew her. She was clearly a force majeur. My deepest condolences to her husband and the family. The world is a little quieter without her voice. And she will dearly missed. Sylvia Diveky

Condolence From: Adam Czarnecki
Condolence: Most people just complain about world issues. Nicole didn't like the way employers were blind to the future of work and unlike 99% of people, she decided to do something about it. Nicole was an incredible mentor, she always pushed people out of their comfort zone, challenged them, and guided when needed... She provided people with opportunities, otherwise closed to them. I owe a lot of my success to Nicole. I will miss you dearly my friend.

Condolence: So many words could be used to describe Nicole, as she played so many roles in Calgary. When I read this quote I thought of her "A strong woman looks a challenge dead in the eye and gives it a wink." Nicole had grit and grace, I was so fortunate to know her. She will be missed. Deepest sympathies to her family.

Condolence From: Lise Stransky
Condolence: “Let’s get into some trouble together.” Those were the words Nicole left me with after our first meeting together, nearly 6 years ago. A woman of vision, determination and disruption, she has contributed so much to her communities, Calgarians and newcomers to our city. When she first told me about ‘Betsy’ two years ago (who at that time was unnamed) she had no intentions of slowing down, stopping, or feeling sorry for herself. I am fortunate to have crossed paths with such a formidable human being. A bientot, Nicole.

Condolence From: Pat Hanlon
Condolence: Nicole's passing will be a significant loss for the communities that she has worked with throughout her time in Calgary. As a teacher, a leader of community development, champion of newcomers to the city and others who find themselves marginalized and a gadfly with the outlying opinion on the way things could be she was a dynamic presence in the city since I had met her five years ago and it was clear that she did not wish to be daunted by 'Betsy.' It has been an honour to know her and it has been a privilege to have her work in the community the way that she has: with passion, energy, wit, openness, and vision. She leaves a significant legacy in the community, a baton to be carried and an example to follow. She will truly be missed.
