Obituary for Michael Barna Rose

Michael Barna Rose
Michael Barna Rose (Rozsa Mihaly) beloved husband of Shirley Rose of Calgary, peacefully passed away July 4, 2018 at the age of 79 years. Born in Debrecen, Hungary, May 1, 1939.

He is survived by his son Misi, daughter Erica; grandchildren Colleen, Brandon, Jamie and Nicole. Also survived by his sister Viola in Hungary and many extended family members in Calgary, Vancouver, Australia and the United States.

As a result of sudden heart failure, Mike was blessed to receive a “ new “ heart May 18, 2002. In 2011, Mike was diagnosed with macular degeneration that resulted in blindness over the years.

In 1957, Mike immigrated to Canada from Hungary to follow his dreams of freedom and a better life and considered himself a true Canadian but never forgot his Hungarian heritage.

A Renaissance man - educated, talented in woodworking, public speaking and his love of Hungarian music and song with friends and family.

After arriving alone in Canada, Mike put himself through university and graduated with a Metallurgical Degree that took great determination, courage and hardship.

His warmth and friendliness added to his charm and ability to be the ultimate host (“49 drops”).

Mike will be sorrowfully missed by many.
